A lot of times Euro tower clock movements are more eye-catching, because each manufacturer wanted "theirs" to be completely different and unique for the most part. You may want to look at a European movement. Howard #00, which is very easy to display, etc.
To be honest I have owned both Howard and Seth Thomas's at one point in time, and now my tower clock collection only has the small E.

To comment on your future tower clock purchase, I'll be honest with you, if you want a E. It took me a very long time, but you can still find them if you are persistant. And as far as Beeson's book, it is probably the best resource for your ancient bird cage style clocks, and you will have fun finding a copy of one of those. You can find Shelley's book on Ebay many times, but be ready to pay about $50-70 for it. I have both books, Beeson's and Shelley's, and they both are excellent books.
